ABOUT ME

I am a professional photographer based in Malaysia, specializing in portrait, documentary, and editorial photography. My work is driven by a deep passion for storytelling—capturing the essence of individuals, communities, and cultures through compelling imagery.

Beyond photography, I am also an author, having published three books in the Born in Malaysia series. One of these books was honored with the National Book Award by the National Book Foundation of Malaysia, a testament to my commitment to documenting the rich and diverse narratives of the people who call Malaysia home.

My expertise extends beyond personal projects; I have collaborated with esteemed organizations such as S P Setia, Think City, the Malaysian Consortium of Mid-Tier Companies (MCMTC), and Solar Alert, authoring and photographing books that encapsulate their vision and impact. My work often explores themes of nostalgia, heritage, and the unseen stories of urban life, as seen in my documentation of Kuala Lumpur’s vanishing old-world charm.

Much of my inspiration comes from my own journey of rediscovery. After spending two decades abroad, I returned to Malaysia in 2010, only to find that many of the places and traditions I once knew were disappearing. This realization sparked a personal mission to document the rapidly vanishing crafts, trades, and stories that form the heart of Malaysia’s multicultural identity. From shopkeepers and hawkers to artisans and fishermen, I have sought to preserve these untold narratives before they fade into history.

Recognized for my evocative storytelling through photography, my work has been featured in Tatler Asia, New Straits Times, and other publications. I strive to go beyond aesthetics, using my images to preserve fading traditions and amplify voices that might otherwise go unheard.

Looking ahead to 2025, I am actively working on multiple book projects, including Born in Merdeka, a powerful chronicle of the Orang Asli of Malaysia, as well as the next installment in the Born in Malaysia series.

I am available for portrait sessions with individuals, families, and corporate clients, offering bespoke photography that captures authenticity and character. Additionally, I am regularly commissioned for documentary and editorial projects, helping businesses and publications tell their stories through powerful visual narratives.

With years of experience living abroad in Taiwan and China, I bring a unique global perspective to my work, allowing me to approach each subject with cultural sensitivity and depth. I also studied photography in the United States, which provided me with a strong technical foundation and a deeper understanding of visual storytelling. Whether through the lens of my camera or the pages of my books, I am dedicated to preserving stories that matter.

For inquiries, collaborations, or portrait commissions, feel free to get in touch.
